BLACKBURN boss Graeme Souness has insisted Matt Jansen still has a future at the club.
The ambitious Rovers chief has already promised to make changes this summer and several members of the current squad will be told to find themselves new clubs at a meeting next week.
But Jansen won't be one of them after Souness revealed the 26-year-old striker is still in his plans for next season.
"Matt is part of the plans and he'll still be here (next season)," said Souness.
"He's got another year on his contract. He's not figured as much as he would have wanted this year - or as much as we would have wanted.
"We've had some difficult games this season where the Matt of old might have been the difference for us, so no-one wants the old Matt Jansen back more than me.
"He has made a big, big difference for us in games in the past."
Jansen has only featured in 26 Premiership games for Rovers since he suffered serious head injuries as a result of a motorbike accident two years ago.
However, Souness believes the former Crystal Palace striker is not far off rediscovering the kind of form which once carried him to the brink of Sven Goran Eriksson's England squad and he will be given a fresh chance to prove himself in pre-season.
"Matt's had a problem with confidence and nothing else," said Souness.
"We feel that Matt is back to where he wants to be in terms of his fitness and the fact he's got no problems with his head.
"So I think it's just confidence with him. We can only help him so much and the rest has got to come from him ultimately.
"But Matt is one of those who you'd want to work with because he's a proper type."
Meanwhile, Souness has confirmed that he's interested in Rangers winger Peter Lovenkrands - a story we broke exclusively earlier this week.
"I speak to David Murray (at Rangers) every week and we talk about football all the time," said Souness.
"Left-sided players are hard to find and I've been looking at other left-sided players and so have the guys I work with.
"Peter Lovenkrands is one name we've spoken about but we've not made any offers for anyone as we speak."
