A TEENAGER who raided the office in a home for the elderly and later stole a car is behind bars for nine months.
The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, took the vehicle while subject to a conditional discharge imposed for the £456 raid.
He struck six weeks after his early release from custody for another burglary.
Sentencing him, District Judge Paul Firth told the defendant the fact he had been earlier given a conditional discharge by justices for the attack on the home for the elderly troubled him greatly.
"The people are there because they need help and they could have been disturbed in the middle of the night by a burglar," he said. The youth, from Nelson, admited taking a vehicle without consent and breaching a conditional discharge.
He was also banned from driving for 12 months.
