AN exhibition inspired by the historic collections of a Burnley museum has opened in the town.
The Weaving Cultures Together exhibition, at Towneley Hall Art Gallery and Museum, will showcase artwork made from over 120 textiles and at least 20 materials and methods.
All the works on show have been inspired by the museum's collections, including the famous 15th Century Whalley Abbey vestments made of gold cloth and Native American necklaces.
It has been produced by members of Threadmill, Phoenix Textile Group and Textile Workshop and Nazia Sultana and incorporates cross cultural motifs and techniques.
Items include handbags, wall hangings, jewellery, clothing and sculptures made from felt, silk, copper, cotton, tissue and lace.
The exhibition has been organised by Fiona Salvesen, the keeper of art at Towneley, and was opened by Mayor of Burnley, Coun Lilian Clark, on Saturday.
The hall opens Monday to Thursday, 10am and 5pm, and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5pm.
