ON a day when it looked as though the weather would be the winner, two of our local sides managed full games.
At Woodhill Lane, Morecambe beat Leyland by 3 wickets, a result that put Morecambe at the top of the league.
Bottom of the league Leyland batted first but South African professional and one day international player Charl Langeveldt was in devastating form and returned impressive figures of 6 for 65 off 25 overs. Wicket keeper Charlie Williams top scored for Leyland with 24. A. Mercer, M. Atiq, and A. Walsh were the only other batsmen to reach double figures.
Leyland had Morecambe in some trouble at 45 for 5 until R. Yadav was dropped. It proved to be a costly incident for Leyland as Yadav went on to score 43 not out. Parvez Shuma with 4-57 off 18 ,and Steve Pallet 3-48 off 18 both made Morecambe work hard for their 3 wicket victory.
Last year's champions Darwen had another convincing victory, this week at Preston, who were bowled out for137 in 56 overs. Darwen only lost one wicket passing the Preston total in 37 overs. Hadfield 52 and Semple 58 were both not out.
The matches between Blackpool and Leyland Motors, Chorley and St Annes were both abandoned
Leyland Motors will be without three key players for the next few weeks as Ugrady and Hanif Patel are injured while Richard Rounding has university exams.
