MARRIAGE prospects for young women in East Lancashire were twice as good as 20 years ago according to the big census of 1951.
In the 20-24 age group 463 in every 1,000 women were married compared with 232 in every 1,000 two generations previously.
It was announced that the Queen was to tour East Lancashire cotton towns Blackburn, Burnley, Nelson and Colne in September.
