CORONATION Street's Julie Hesmondhalgh, who plays Hayley Cropper in the soap, returned to her home town to open a new store for the charity of which she is patron.
Julie opened the Abbey Street shop of Maundy Relief Trust, a charity which provides crisis support in food parcels, clothing, bedding and recycled furniture. And she handed signed photographs of other cast members and Corrie gifts to Maundy Relief manager Dorothy McGregor to help raise money for the charity.
The new shop was opened thanks to a £10,000 grant from the Lloyds TSB Foundation which will cover the rent.
