DENTAL specialists will be visiting children's groups across the Fylde next week to encourage parents to fight tooth decay in pre-school aged children.
Five-year-olds in the north west still have more teeth affected by decay compared to the rest of England. In the local area the average tooth decay in a five-year-old is 2.5 decayed or missing teeth.
The Community Dental Service work across Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde constantly striving to improve these figures.
Much of their work is carried out with pre school children and their parents, working within the 'Healthy Schools' initiative to provide dental health education to pupils and staff and promote tooth brushing programmes in settings where there are children, young people and adults with special needs.
During Smile Week, next week, the oral health messages will be promoted in the following locations:
Monday - 'Sure Start' parent and toddler group, Fleetwood.
Tuesday - 'Little Angels' pre school, Anchorsholme.
Wednesday - Sacred Heart pre-school, Thornton.
Thursday - 'U and UR Baby' group, Blackpool, Baby massage group, St Annes.
Toothbrushing programmes will carry on as normal throughout the week.
