Talented young footballers have the chance to pursue a career in the game even if they don't make it on the pitch.
For Myerscough College has teamed up with Blackburn Rovers to hold a National Diploma in Football Studies -- a course that blends football skills with football study.
The link follows a similar scheme with Burnley Football Club which has been a huge success in its first year.
The two year course is aimed at youngsters who may have been released from professional clubs and other talented players who want to pursue a career in football.
The course, which will be based at Ewood Park and Witton Park, comprises of 18 units including sports injuries, the principles of coaching and nutrition in sport.
It can lead to career opportunities in football coaching and sports development or as an entry requirement for the two year Foundation Degree in Sports Studies.
Students need a minimum requirement of four GCSEs at Grade C or above.
As well as academical requirements, successful applicants must be able to play football at a decent standard.
For as well as studying coaching skills, players will represent Myerscough in the Alliance League and British College Academy League.
Peter Caney, Myerscough's centre manager for East Lancashire said: "The course is a blend of study and practice in football. It will encourage the development of playing skills and a good foundation in relevant training, coaching and administration.
"The course has been running for one year at Burnley and has been very popular."
Anthony Barlow, Blackburn Rovers community development football officer, said: "This is a great opportunity to further a career in football or other sports related occupations.
"Nowadays, there are many opportunities to be involved in football even if you are not good enough to make it as a player.
"There is more to football than what goes on on the pitch and the course is a great way to get involved -- whether it is as a dietician, nutritionist or physio."
He added: "There are a lot of young footballers who put all their eggs in to one basket and if they don't make it as a footballer they don't have anything to fall back on.
"This course is ideal for those who may have thought their chance of being involved in the game had gone."
