THE surrounding of Blackburn and Darwen by the Council Council with "Welcome to Lancashire" signs has been the subject of much criticism in your pages and rightly so.

However, Blackburn with Darwen Council itself is also guilty of similar outrages as the monstrous carbuncle that has been erected in the cottage garden at Sunnyhurst Woods testifies.

In this beautiful setting has been placed a massive alien circular sign that totally dominates views of the garden and visitor centre.

What was previously a beautiful location has now been seriously degraded.

So huge and out of scale is this sign that even Lewis Carroll would have thought it too outrageous for Alice's Wonderland.

Any complaints that Blackburn with Darwen Council have about the County Council's signage antics are negated by its own outrage at Sunnyhurst.
