REGARDING Blackburn Council's recent decision on the Velvet Lounge, morals of nudity and the subsequent replies in your columns, I would like to make a comparison and leave you to make up your own minds:
A one-to-one lap dance routine performed by a professional on a consenting participant, both of them complying with strict house rules in a controlled and enclosed environment.
Or, as occurs regularly at another local entertainment venue:
A stage show forcefully observed by a large and predominantly teenage audience where already drunk contestants are bribed with 'bubbly' to perform a range of acts, such as revealing breasts, imitating sexual positions/acts, removing and exchanging underwear with the opposite sex and being encouraged to drink beer through hoses and funnels until they vomit.
Which situation is morally damaging to the youth and also the reputation of Blackburn?
May I suggest certain members of the council, the opinionated public and undercover newspaper reporters go out and discover what actually goes on inside the licensed premises of Blackburn?
