A SERVICE of thanksgiving is being held in Burnley to mark the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings and the start of the Normandy campaign.
The service, which is being held at the town's war memorial, in Croft Street, on Sunday, June 6, at 2.30pm, will be conducted by Canon Tom Bill, rector of the Burnley Parish Church of St Peter and chaplain of the Burnley branch of the Royal British Legion.
It will be attended by the Burnley's deputy mayor, councillor John Harbour.
Ex-servicemen's associations and uniformed organisations will parade through the town centre before the service.
The Towneley High School Band will play for the parade and the hymns during the service. They will also play the Last Post.
A guard of honour will be formed at the war memorial by veterans of D-Day and the Normandy campaign.
The Royal British Legion will lay crosses in the Gardens of Remembrance at the war memorial and at Padiham Town Hall.
On Wednesday, June 2, veterans with Cannon Bill in the Mayor's Parlour at Burnley Town Hall.
