A SERIES of walks have been announced to guide people around four new Tacklers Trails in Nelson and Brierfield.
The trails, aimed at linking the community with the canals and the cotton industry, are named after powerful overlookers who worked in the mills.
They have been devised as part of a Canal Corridor Development Strategy project expected to be complete in 2005, which will be extended to Colne in 2006.
The main Tacklers Trail is a linear route along the canal from Hawks House Bridge, in Brierfield, to Barrowford Locks.
Five circular walks will come off the main trail, including the the Tunstill Trek, named after the main cotton manufacturers in Brierfield, the Weavers Walk in Whitefield and the Walton Way.
The walks will eventually be marked with a special colour-coded logo featuring a canal barge and a shuttle.
Guided circular walks will be held on June 5, 12 and 13, all starting at 2pm.
