SOME of Lancashire's fringe players will get the chance to shine tomorrow when they take on Bradford and Leeds University.
The game will be a good opportunity for players to catch the eye of coach Mike Watkinson and try to force their way into the first team.
One of these is 24-year-old batsman Mark Currie. He has already had a taste of first team cricket, including a highest score of 97 against Durham University last season.
However, the innings that really showed the right-handers promise was during his Championship debut against Surrey that same season.
Coming in at number three against an attack including five international bowlers Currie scored 56 and was involved in an important partnership with Stuart Law, showing composure above his years.
The innings didn't get him a run in the team, he was just deputising for the injured Mal Loye, and it will probably be the same story for him again.
It will take something special for Currie to find a slot at the top of the Lancashire batting order. On current form none of them are going to be shifted in the near future.
But injuries can always occur in cricket so if he can score some runs it will keep his name in the frame.
Even though some established names will be missing from the Lancashire team it still looks a strong outfit, further emphasising the strength in this current squad.
Alec Swann will also be looking for some runs and Chris Schofield would like to remind Lancashire fans he is still around after being overshadowed by Gary Keedy.
Probable team: Chilton, Swann, Horton, Currie, Schofield, Hogg, Crook, Haynes, Mahmood, Wood, Keedy.
