SCHOOLS in Bury are being urged to create a wildflower garden to mark World Environment Day.
The Environment Agency is giving away more than 1,000 packets of seeds to schools in return for a pledge to support World Environment Day on June 5.
Environmental pledges can range from switching off the television rather than leaving it on stand-by to hanging out one load of washing per week, rather than tumble dry.
Special seed packs will grow flowers such as poppies, cornflowers, and marigolds.
Jo Vause, principal campaigns officer for the Environment Agency in the north west, said: "By creating a wildflower garden in their own school they will not only be helping local insect life to blossom, but through their pledge they will be helping the environment even more during the year ahead."
Schools wanting to take part should write to the local Environment Agency area office, marking their entry 'WED seeds', at Appleton House, 430 Birchwood Boulevard, Birchwood, Warrington, WA3 7WD with details of their chosen pledge.
