ARSONISTS are believed to have set fire to timber pallets which caused a major blaze at industrial premises in Leigh early on Wednesday.
Fire crews were called at 3.15am to Ashton Pallets at the Bridgewater Business Park in Leigh, where hundreds of pallets were ablaze.
They struggled to keep the fire under control as it spread to nearby houses and damaged the roof of a terraced house in Henry Street, forcing the occupants to flee. An aerial platform was used by firefighters to cool roof tops and windows at the other houses.
More than 40 firefighters fought the blaze.
An investigation has been launched by police and the fire service. The blaze is being treated as suspicious.
Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Leigh CID on 0161 856 7252, or call Crimestoppers on free phone 0800 555 111.
