EMMERDALE star Mark Charnock paid tribute to his Tyldesley grandad as he accepted a national television award for his part in a heart-wrenching scene.
The former Canon Slade pupil, who plays Marlon Dingle in the ITV soap, dedicated his accolade for Best Dramatic Performance at the British Soap Awards to his grandad Tommy Charnock.
Ex-mineworker Mr Charnock, who died just over a year ago, was one of the last people to be employed by the NCB at Astley Green Colliery after the pit closed in April 1970. He stayed on as a watchman until the demolition men moved in.
A family friend, who did not wish to be named, said: "Tommy was very well known in the area and his family certainly thought a lot about him, especially Mark. it was nice to see the award dedicated to him."
The actor picked up the prestigious award for his tearful portrayal of Marlon after the death of his on-screen wife Tricia, played by Sheree Murphy.
