A COMMUNITY leader in Accrington was left 'traumatised' after being mugged at the weekend.
The 59-year-old, who has not been identified by police, is said to have been a member of two 'worthwhile committees' in the area.
During the attack the victim had her bag stolen.
It contained a set of earrings, which had a sentimental value.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the crime to come forward.
They say the woman was walking with her husband in Pickup Street when a white van pulled up across the street.
A man ran out, and asked to borrow her mobile phone.
He then snatched her bag, which contained cash cards, house keys, a phone top-up card and the earrings, which were silver in the shape of crosses with small stones on the surface.
During the robbery, the victim received a bruised hand.
The robber was tall, young and wearing dark clothing. It is believed the van was driven by another man.
