A 38 YEAR-old man who took a nostalgic trip down memory lane was arrested after assaulting a former neighbour who had an affair with his wife seven years earlier.
Blackburn magistrates heard that the affair had ended Ian David Brown's marriage and he had not seen his children since.
And his attack on Phillip Chadwick had come when he was in a highly charged state emotionally.
Brown, of Brook Villas, Waddington, pleaded guilty to assault.
He was made subject to a community rehabilitation order for 12 months and ordered to pay £80 compensation and £80 costs.
Francis McEntee, prosecuting, said the incident had taken place at Mr Chadwick's home in Ennerdale Close. After the two men exchanged words Brown pushed the other against a car.
The court had previously been told the history of the incident went back to 1996 when Mr Chadwick had an affair with Brown's wife.
That led to the break-up of his marriage and as a result of that he had not seen his children for seven years.
Brown had previously conceded there had been a number of incidents between himself and Mr Chadwick around the time of the affair but none of them had resulted in criminal proceedings. They had not seen each other for seven years prior to the incident.
