IT WAS happy families at Clitheroe Golf Club last weekend.
Gary Speak took first prize in the fourball stableford with his partner Malcolm Brown, while father Ted Speak and La Manga-based Derek Eglin finished third, just two shots behind.
Colin Akeroyd and Jeff Crowther recorded the same 45 points as the winners, but had to settle for second spot on the cards.
Another prominent family duo, David Heesom and son Andrew, triumphed over Ron Cornwell and Ken O'Brien for fourth place.
The aforementioned Gary Speak scored 37 points in Saturday's Miners Lamp stableford to finish in sixth spot and confirm his good form.
Eight players were within three shots of Simon Cherry, who won the competition with an impressive 40 points.
The only home-based player to figure in the Spring Open Fourball prize list was Malcolm Brown who, with partner Andy Norman from Blackburn Golf Club, was eased into fifth place with 43 points after cards with three other pairings.
Burnley pairing Bridge and Stevens took the gross prize with 39 points.
