LOCAL MPs, Andy Burnham and Ian McCartney, are a step further in their plans to bring a new train station to Golborne following a productive meeting last week with Transport Minister Kim Howells.
Also present at the meeting were GMPTE, Merseytravel, Network Rail, the Strategic Rail Authority and Councillor Lynne Liptrot from Wigan Council.
Both MPs have already met with GMPTE and Merseytravel to argue the case for a train station in Golborne.
A joint feasibility study is currently being conducted in the area, prompted by a petition ran by the MPs last year calling for a train station and signed by thousands of Golborne residents.
All stakeholders involved will meet again in June to review the outcomes of the joint feasibility study and a final decision will be made by the end of the year.
