I FEEL the need to write this letter before someone is killed or seriously hurt. I am referring to the state of illegal parking in Whalley Range in Blackburn.
I drive through Whalley Range and Plane Street quite often and I would be totally surprised if I saw less than 20 illegally parked vehicles at any one time.
They are parked on double yellow lines, on pavements and even on corners with one end of the vehicle in one street and on end in another street.
I have spotted traffic wardens and police in the area, but they seem to be turning a blind eye to what is gong on.
Some of this parking is quite dangerous, but whether or not it is, the law is the law and it should be implemented.
According to an article in your paper there was to be a crackdown on this sort of thing, maybe Whalley Range has been excluded for some reason.
E KELLY, Blackburn.
Footnote: Inspector Mick Laraway said: "The have been three recent enforcement operations in the Whalley Range area targeting parking problems, speeding and seatbelt enforcement. The police have tried to educate people living in the area regarding parking problems, and the local authority have also done some work to try and alleviate problems in this area. I would ask those who live in the area to park considerately and legally, or further enforcement will be necessary."
