TWO historic parts of Ramsbottom could be declared conservation areas to protect them from developers.
Town hall bosses say the Tanners and Bury New Road areas are of special architectural quality, and official designation will help save Ramsbottom's heritage and character.
The Tanners area dates back to the 18th century. While not much remains of the original buildings, pockets of early 19th-century development remain along Carr Street and Tanners Street, supplemented by mid to late 19th-century dwellings. Officers say the area has its own special character.
The Bury New Road area, of stone villas east of the River Irwell, features substantial early Victorian buildings including Park Cottage, the earliest of these buildings, from 1847.
Councillors at Wednesday's executive meeting put the proposals out for consultation before making a final decision.
