TONY Blair has praised a Burnley scheme to tackle violent binge boozers.
The Prime Minister highlighted Burnley Against Night Time Disorder (BAND) in his speech to the alcohol industry yesterday which warned that binge drinking was becoming the new British disease.
Mr Blair highlighted a number of partnership initiatives involving police and the drinks industry.
And he went on: "I know that a lot of constructive work by the industry to combat this problem.
"For instance, the Burnley Against Night Time Disorder initiative banning violence individuals from pubs for a year, and the High Peaks Safer Pubs and Clubs Scheme.
"We need everyone in the industry to follow these examples."
Burnley MP Peter Pike was delighted at the Prime Minister's highlighting of the scheme.
He said: "Its the sort of thing we need more of."
