THERE wasn't a weed in sight when a bunch of Whitefield women decided upon a "blooming good" fundraising idea.
Ladies from the Whitefield and District Flower Club featured a successful plant stall at their annual coffee evening and bring and buy sale.
The stall was just one of many at the crowded event, held in Besses United Reformed Church, which raised £780 for Christie Hospital.
A representative from Whitefield-based ladies committee, Tender Loving Care, which supports Christie's, gave an informative talk on the hospital's work with cancer sufferers.
Secretary of the flower club, Mrs Rose Hopkinson, said: "It was a wonderful event that was extremely well attended. I would like to thank Sainsburys, Tesco and Marks and Spencer for donating gifts for our tombola and raffle."
Elsewhere in Whitefield, members of Stand All Saints Church watched their coffers grow with a popular plant sale.
The sale was held in the grounds of the church hall, in Church Lane, and the event was so successful the ladies are planning another sale for next year.
