DAVID May has warned the Burnley board: Show more ambition or I'm off!
I can reveal that May has already been contacted by several clubs after being told talks over a new Turf Moor contract are on ice until a new Clarets manager is appointed.
The former Manchester United defender, 33, has told interested parties he is happy to bide his time until the full picture at Burnley emerges.
But May is anxious to avoid another relegation dogfight - and wants assurances the new Turf Moor chief will have cash to spend.
He said: "I have met with the chief executive and been told what we already know - that contracts cannot be discussed until a new manager is appointed.
"I have clubs that will take me on, and if a club comes in that I consider to be a good move then I have to think about it because I have to look after myself.
"But for now, I've said I want to hold fire and see what happens.
"As soon as Burnley get someone in they can start putting things into perspective, but it's important to get everything right.
"Finance doesn't bother me any more - it's ambition that drives me and I need to know the board are going to back the new manager.
"I don't want to be there next year if we are in another dog-fight.
"The only way for Burnley is up and the board have to show they want to go the right way and be willing to back the club.
"The club has to be looking in the right direction and looking to the play-offs, rather than looking to survive for another season."
Moore, meanwhile, will start next season confined to the stands wherever he manages after picking up a one-match touchline ban and £1,000 fine.
The ban has been imposed by the Football Association following Moore's involvement in trouble that marred the Millers home game with Norwich City last January.
Elsewhere, I understand Bolton assistant boss Phil Brown and former Wrexham and Swansea chief Brian Flynn are both still waiting to hear if they will be interviewed.
Stockport boss Sammy McIlroy, loosely linked with the post, has however ruled himself out of the reckoning by committing his future to County.
Former Burnley loan signing Neil Wood has been released by Manchester United.
Midfielder Wood, who made 11 appearances during a three-month loan spell with the Clarets last season, will become a free agent from June 30.
