A BLAZE ripped through one of Blackpool Pleasure Beach's most famous rides last night (Thursday).
Firefighters were called to the park's Grand National ride at around 9.30pm. The fire is believed to have started at the entrance to the ride and was spotted by Pleasure Beach security staff.
The fire also damaged the Terror Towers haunted house attraction and the Alice in Wonderland children's ride.
50 firefighters from across the Fylde Coast fought the fire and it was brought under control later in the evening.
The Grand National opened in 1935 and is one of Britain's oldest remaining wooden roller coasters, designed by Charles Paige.
The entrance building, which sustained the most serious damage, was designed by Joseph Emberton, the architect responsible for many of the Pleasure Beach's buildings in the 1920s and 30s.
Despite the damage, the park will re-open later today (Friday).
An investigation has been launched into the cause of the blaze.
