THE father of a 12-year-old girl killed when she was run over by a banned driver has backed an MP's call for tougher laws.
Hyndburn MP Greg Pope's motion in the House of Commons asked for a new charge of causing death while disqualified. It would carry a maximum of 14 years in jail.
Amy Houston was killed after being hit by a car in Newfield Drive, on the Fishmoor estate in Blackburn, last November. The car was driven by a failed Iraqi asylum seeker who had been banned from UK roads.
Aso Mohammed Ibrahim was sentenced to four months in jail.
Her father, Paul, of Russia Street, Accrington, has since campaigned for a new law to be introduced. He said said: "Mr Pope had said this to us a while ago and we are glad he has kept to his word."
