Leigh Centurions 30 Keighley Cougars 12 by Mike Hulme: NEIL Turley was left stranded on 98 in his quest to become the fastest-ever player to reach 100 goals in a season as an out-of-sorts Leigh Centurions struggled to overcome basement side Keighley.
Turley only managed three goals from six shots to sum up Leigh's hit and miss afternoon.
At times they were lethal, but for much of the game they were awful as pass after pass went to ground.
Coach Darren Abram tried to look for the positives as he said: "We had a number of key players out and the intensity just wasn't there. However, considering we only had a completion rate of 50 per cent, conceding one try in each half is quite pleasing."
Leigh remain top of the table but will be hoping they've got their bad game out of their system.
Leigh started slowly and might have been a try down before winger Gary Rourke scored his first try for the club after being promoted from the Academy side. Turley converted from the touchline.
The Cougars, with only one previous win, were soon back on level terms after a Chris Parker try goaled by Craig Nipperess.
Two tries in three minutes from Danny Halliwell and Ian Knott threatened to break Keighly's spirit but poor Leigh execution let them off the hook and at half time the Centurions were only 16-6 ahead.
Two minutes into the second half a Tommy Martyn sold two outrageous dummies to glide over for a try that finally opened up some daylight. When Keighley's Karl Smith was sin-binned in the 50th minute, Leigh took advantage to strike again through Knott and Paul Rowley.
Leigh were happy to here the final hooter which came just second after Jason Clegg had gone under the posts and Nipperess had converted to double Keighley's total.
