I'VE just spent an evening in the company of a great group of youngsters.
They were all members of Blackburn Sea Cadet Unit and were being inspected by Lt Cdr G Thompson RN, NW deputy area officer, to assess if the unit is functioning in accordance with strict standards.
The attitude of the boys and girls was happy and they obviously enjoyed all they had to do.
The strains of Land of Hope and Glory rounded off a truly memorable event which was enjoyed by parents and supporters. Some of whom were heard to say that it was the best night out they'd had in ages.
Praise is due to Blackburn's Sea Cadets for their impeccable uniforms and drill but especially to the officers and staff who voluntarily give up so much of their time to train the cadets who are the citizens of the future (and not a yob amongst them).
