REGARDING E Kelly's letter (LET, May 21) about illegally parked cars on Whalley Range, Blackburn, I would like to express my opinions.
I totally agree with E Kelly about the dangerous parking on Whalley Range especially with a school nearby.
However,, I don't agree with Inspector Laraway's comments about residents. It is not about educating the residents but the shop owners who have absolutely no sense of responsibility regarding parking or anything else on Whalley Range. The police and traffic wardens do nothing about it or these problems would not persist.
I have a cousin who lives at the bottom of Blackburn Street and the number of times we have had problems getting into this street is countless. Blackburn Street is used by people from out of town and other areas of Blackburn and the shopkeepers themselves as a car park.
The stupidity of some drivers is beyond belief, with no consideration for pedestrians and other drivers. The attitude is 'who cares if I park on a double yellow line'.
Blackburn Street is also used as a waste bin for the ignorant people in our society i.e. keep their area clean but forget everyone else's. The street is full of rubbish from goods sold in nearby shops and is an eyesore.
People eat in their cars and then simply throw their rubbish out of the window and drive off. This is not fair to the residents who have to live in this dump.
Officers need to continually pay attention to Whalley Range, not once in a blue moon, before a serious accident occurs.
