DARWEN MP Janet Anderson was shocked to discover a video of "Jackass The Movie" on sale at check-outs in the town's Sainsbury's superstore despite a string of injuries to local youngsters imitating the TV show.
Joe Armstrong, from Tunnel Street, revealed to the Evening Telegraph last week that he thought he was going to die and will be scarred for life after catching fire when petrol was poured over flames he was jumping over.
The 11-year-old's injuries were the first in a string of cases involving Darwen youngsters trying to imitate the antics of the programme from MTV and Channel 4 for a local website.
Other pranks included pushing a boy's head into a bed of nails, and Michael Davies, 15 of Anchor Avenue, being "run over" by a car driven by his mother, Beverley Clare, to put on his website.
was stunned to find "Jackass The Movie" being promoted at Sainsburys.
The video promotion at Sainsbury's promised five extra hours of special stunts and scenes. Mrs Anderson, Labour MP for Rossendale and Darwen, "I was astonished to see this video being promoted at Sainsburys in Darwen after what has happened involving local youngsters.
"It just doesn't seem that it is the right thing to do for a supermarket to be selling this video at check-outs.
"After all that has happened to Joe and others, I was shocked.
"I shall be writing to the manager of the store to ask him to remove the videos. We don't want to encourage any further such incidents."
A Sainsbury's spokeswoman said: "We haven't had any communication from Janet Andserson to express concern.
"The Jackass DVD is on sale at a variety of retailers as it is on general release.
"It is an 18 certificate which is very clearly stated on the cover along with a warning saying stunts were performed by professionals and should not be copied."
But Allyson Hughes, Joe Armstrong's mother, said: "I don't think they should be selling these DVDs in Darwen after what has happened.
"It is wrong and could lead to more children copying off them."
