A ROSSENDALE councillor is urging people in the Valley to join in with World Environment Day next month.
Several organisations have joined together to help promote the day which is to be celebrated on June 5.
Christine Lamb, a Stacksteads councillor, said the North West Environment Agency, the Regional Development Agency, United Utilities and the Mersey Basin trust are organising a number of events under the banner of 'Clean, Save, Enjoy.'
She said they were asking groups, individuals or businesses to join in with the Environment Agency's on-line pledge system such as swapping a standard light bulb for a low energy one, promising to take a shower rather than a bath, planting a tree or cut down on daily car mileage.
Businesses in Rossendale are asked to support an environmental charity by allowing employees to wear jeans to work for a small donation.
Coun Lamb said: "The organisers hope that by sharing the vision of a better environment we can all share a better quality of life. By collectively making simple lifestyle changes and finding greener ways of working, World Environment Day can make a real difference, both globally and locally through action at home and at work."
