GREEN-FINGERED council estate residents can cash in on an amateur gardening contest.
Now in its second year, Wigan's Borough in Bloom project encourages people to make their gardens blossom in a free to enter competition.

Best communal garden
Best balcony, container or hanging basket
Most improved garden
Wigan & Leigh housing recognition award
Most promising young gardener (under 35)
Best 'private' garden on a council estate
The first three in each category will get £50, £30 and £20 and winners will go through to the borough where category winners will receive £100, £75 and £50. Judging takes place at the end of June. Entry forms are available at area housing offices.
