AS chair of the Rossendale and Hyndburn Amnesty International Group, may I, through your page, say an enormous thanks you to the students from Accrington and Rossendale College, for their fantastic fundraising efforts over last weekend.
The HND music performance students had organised a music festival over three nights and raised £206.50 for the local Amnesty International group.
As chair of the group I would like to say thanks, as the money will allow us to send many appeals asking for the release of our adopted Prisoner of Conscience, Jampel Changchub, detailed in Tibet for the last 15 years for organising a peaceful demonstration.
For 44 years we have been working to ensure that governments worldwide uphold International Human Rights Laws.
The last few weeks has demonstrated that we have a long way to go yet. The images on our TV screens have been shocking. Amnesty have been working to end these sorts of injustices for many years, in many countries, they just haven't been so public before.
It was brilliant to work with local young people who want to do something about what's happening to the millions of people whose human rights are violated daily by their own governments.
