PARAMEDICS were fired on with a paintball gun as they raced to an emergency call in Bury.
A yellow paint-filled pellet struck the passenger-side window of an ambulance in Peel Way at 5.30pm on Tuesday.
If the window had been open, the pellet could have hit paramedic Paula Swarbrick in the face.
Driver Matt Wise managed to remain in control of the vehicle and they responded on time to the 999 incident in Bury town centre
The paintball attacker has been described as "mindless" by the operations manager at Bury ambulance station, Stuart Rankine. He said: "Paula could have been blinded if the window had been wound down. I am relieved she was not harmed.
"This was a mindless attack on a crew going to someone's aid. They could have caused Paula and Matt serious injury and also a delay in getting help to those who need it."
Anyone who knows the identity of the paintball sniper is asked to contact Bury Police on 0161 872 5050.
