THE Mayor of Bury is getting on board in the campaign to recruit more foster carers
Councillor Wilf Davison is to launch a new eye-catching advert on the back of a bus which from Bank Holiday Monday will be seen all over Bury.
Bury Council's family placement team has organised a host of recruitment activities to follow on from National Fostering Fortnight, earlier this month.
Activities kick off next week with the bus campaign from Viacom Outdoor. The advert completely covers the back of a bus and urges local people to make a difference by becoming a Bury foster carer.
The bus will be seen all over town over the next few months and Bury's family placement Team are looking forward to a high response.
Family placement team manager Diana Powell said: "We hope this high profile campaign will help to raise public awareness of the desperate local need for more foster carers.
"There are different types of fostering which can suit different people depending upon their individual circumstances and the amount of time they have available.
"Foster carers are needed to offer temporary or permanent care or short planned breaks to children of all ages. More carers are particularly needed for older children, teenagers, groups of brothers and sisters, disabled children and children of Asian or Afro Caribbean background."
All foster carers receive a great deal of support, including individual support, support groups, training opportunities, a carers' handbook, access to specialist advice such as a psychologist, a nurse and teachers and weekly allowances of up to £228. For information ring 0161 253 5457.
