BURY'S controversial kerbside recycling scheme is to be examined by the council's economy, environment and transport commission.
The panel has asked for an evaluation of the scheme to be placed on its work programme for later this year.
Mr Philip Allen, the council's director of environment and development services, said: "We welcome the scrutiny commission's involvement and will be happy to co-operate with its investigation."
So far, about 800 home visits have been made to households that have requested a "waste audit". The latest figures show that 300 tonnes of waste are recycled each week, up from 100 in March when the scheme was launched.
Bury is joint top of the region when it comes to kerbside recycling, offering the service to 100 per cent of its residents. The GMB trade union, in its survey, calls on other councils to follow suit.
