FIRE crews today stressed that smoke alarms save lives after a family escaped a burning house in Burnley this morning.
A fire broke out in the kitchen of a home in Milner Street at 6.25am after smoking materials set light to a curtain. One of the occupants attempted to take the curtain outside but was unable to as the door was locked.
Smoke alarm signals alerted the rest of the family, who were still in bed, and they all left the house unhurt.
Firefighters said the blaze had damaged the kitchen but that the smoke alarm could have saved their lives.
