THE main election address from the Labour Group controlling Bury Council has been dropping through letter boxes and, as you would expect, the glossy publication paints a much more attractive picture of Bury than you might recognise from the perspective of a local resident.

But that is not my complaint.

We have distributed our own literature presenting the other side of the coin with our criticisms of Labour and setting out our own policies on everything, from weekly bin collections to car parking contracts, and from adult education to reducing propaganda.

Where I wish to criticise Labour's publication is its misleading assertions about our own Conservative policies.

Labour present a long list of items which they claim Conservatives have opposed. To my surprise these include street cleaning, parks staff and even a lift for disabled adult education students (the latter is something I have supported for the Arts and Crafts Centre over the last 14 years).

But the one which really must be highlighted is the statement that "The Tories say 'No' to sound financial management".

This is an extremely silly statement and it just show show out of touch Labour are in Bury if they think the public at large will swallow this kind of nonsense. Just for the record I can say Conservatives are in favour of sound financial management.
