A PRESTWICH dentist who created a babycare web business has joined forces with a TV journalist after his site came to her rescue.
Granada TV's Elaine Wilcox searched the internet in desperation after the birth of her second son, James. At just two-weeks-old, he developed colic and screamed for hours on end every evening and nothing his parents could do would settle them.
She went on-line and discovered the www.pregnancybooksandvideos.com site, set up by Prestwich man Mr Mel Rosenthal who runs a busy dental practice in Bolton.
The web site proved a lifesaver for Elaine who was anxious to find out what colic was and to see if there was a miracle cure.
Elaine said: " There was a whole section of books devoted to colic and coping with it. It included the latest research, possible solutions and some imaginative products to help relieve the symptoms.
"The site also guided me to a colic support group set up by parents which was a great comfort. Its founder got just 15 minutes sleep a night, which put my problems into perspective." www.pregnancybooksandv
ideos.com was set up by dentist Mel Rosenthal.
After extensive research, he realised there was a gap in the market to give new mums access to a comprehensive catalogue of resources from the world's leading baby experts.
Mel, of Bury Old Road, Prestwich, explained: "The site has been running since the end of last year. I am 56 and have been a dentist for more than 30 years.
"I thoroughly enjoy my dentistry but felt for a while that I would like to slow down over the next few years. I wanted to have a business that would run itself and allow me to reduce my hours in what is a stressful occupation."
He added: "I looked to set up a business on the internet that was to do with health and after researching with a web design colleague came up with a site that offers parents access to to a range of books, videos, DVDs and CDs on child and pregnancy topics.
"I treat children in the practice and, having had two daughters, know how difficult it is bringing them up and shopping for them."
Commenting on the response to the web site, Mel continued: "I have received very positive feedback, though it is early days yet. We are marketing the site both on-line on the internet and off-line by advertising and PR."
Meanwhile, as a mother-of-two and a journalist, Elaine Wilcox has now agreed to advise Mel on his site, keeping it topical and relevant and also reviewing some of the products on offer.
