A MAN who admitted killing his wife and two children at a Blackpool Hotel has been sent to a maximum security mental hospital indefinitely.
John Jarvis, 42, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility after stabbing his wife, Patricia and sons John, 11, and Stuart, eight.
He could spend the rest of his life at the Ashworth Hospital in Liverpool after his plea at Preston Crown Court on Monday.
Jarvis had persuaded his wife to sign a pre-nuptial agreement limiting her to six cigarettes a day. After discovering that she was smoking more than that, Jarvis stabbed his wife in the heart before murdering their sons on March 26 last year.
He then attempted to cut out his own heart and was seriously injured.
Mrs Jarvis' body was discovered the following morning by the couple's daughter, now 15. Her name has been withheld for legal reasons.
The couple were originally from South Africa and had been in Blackpool for just a few weeks before the killing.
