FOUR Fylde police officers have been publicly commended for their bravery in tackling "dangerous and life-threatening situations".
PC Catherine Ellison, PC Edward Baldwin and PC Stuart Thompson, of Fleetwood, and Blackpool's PC Mark Stringfellow were among 21 officers praised at the Lancashire Constabulary Bravery Awards 2004, held at the Barton Grange Hotel on Monday, May 24.
The four were presented with their awards by Falklands war hero, Simon Weston OBE, after showing "dedication and professionalism in challenging situations".
Lancashire Chief Constable Paul Stephenson said: "On Monday evening we heard the details of many brave acts carried out in the face of dangerous and life threatening situations.
"I believe it is important that we took the time to recognise the courage of those who received bravery awards.
"As a direct result of the actions that we celebrated at last night's ceremony, lives have been saved, serious crimes have been prevented and dangerous criminals have been apprehended.
"All the recipients of the 2004 Lancashire Constabulary Bravery Awards demonstrated a shared ingredient - a determination to do the right thing for the benefit of others.
