PLANS are well advanced for Prestwich's biggest day of the year - the carnival!
The event takes place on Sunday, June 20, Father's Day, and is sure to be one for the dads with a fun football match on the agenda.
Dads, managers and coaches of Prestwich junior football teams the Marauders and Drinkwater Warriors are to get hot and sweaty on the pitch in a Tarts and Fairies soccer match.
Both sides will put forward a five-a-side team dressed in tarts' attire (Drinkwater Warriors) and fairy frocks (Marauders) and may the best men win!
The match will be refereed by Ivan Lewis MP and kick-off is 3pm in St Mary's Park.
Sponsors are the Prestwich and Whitefield Guide.
Organiser Caroline Feehan said: "The youngsters will have their turn earlier in the day when the Marauders and Drinkwater Warriors play for the Longfield Shield in a junior football tournament. The tarts and fairies football match is aimed at the adults who don't mind a bit of fun and dressing up. I know they are all looking forward to it!"
The lads are also looking for a bit of support, so anyone who wishes to join them in costume to cheer them on from the sidelines or join them in the carnival procession, they will be most welcome.
