FORMER Accrington Stanley and Burnley defender Gordon Armstrong has moved to UniBond League Premier Division outfit Radcliffe Borough.
Armstrong was signed by Stanley boss John Coleman following his release from Turf Moor last summer but was not given another deal after admitting he could not go full-time with the Reds.
Radcliffe manager Kevin Glendon said: "I have been looking to bring in an experienced defender for a long time now and players with Gordon's experience and quality don't become available very often.
"At 36 years of age and still fit enough for at least a couple of seasons at this level, he brings with him the know-how which I hope will rub off on the younger players and I am sure he will have an enormous effect on and off-the-pitch.
"Also, after speaking to Stanley boss John Coleman and indeed Stan Ternent, his former boss at Burnley, they both could not speak highly enough of him and thought it was an excellent acquisition for us."
Armstong started his career at Sunderland in 1985, staying there for 11 years until 1996, making 349 apperances and scoring 50 goals as well as appearing in the FA Cup Final.
He then moved to Bury and followed Ternent to Burnley in 1998, where he made 113 apperances and scored four goals before switching to Stanley in their first Nationwide Conference season.
