I WAS interested to read in your paper of the retirement of Bank Top/Wensley Fold Councillor Don Rishton from his post as our senior ward councillor. Don was special.

As well as his dedication to his electorate Don had a unique sense of natural justice which would bubble to the surface from time to time and some organisation or company would get a right old ear-bashing when Don thought the little man was getting a raw deal.

Don was greatly admired by many people for his spirit and sense of justice. His sometimes radical outlook has not always gone down well with his political masters in the local Labour Party.

Don stands head and shoulders above his fellow politicians.

He is indeed a special person and I am sure many people in our ward will join me in wishing Don a very happy retirement. It's the Singer, Not the Song.
