I WRITE regarding the proposed merger of Hyndburn and Blackburn with Darwen Council highlighted in your paper (LET, May 25).
One only has to read letters to this paper over the past few years from residents of Darwen who think they are getting a raw deal from Blackburn. One can just imagine how Hyndburn would far if they were forced to merge with Blackburn, the problems would magnify the problems illustrated by Darwen residents.
To my mind the only good thing about Blackburn comes in the form of blue and white halved shirts and plays at Ewood Park. The rest you can keep.
Hyndburn Council should repel all attempts by Blackburn, the Labour Group on Hyndburn Council and this Government to force an unwanted merger at all costs. It's too late when the deed is done. Now is not the time to sit on our hands, but voice our opposition at every opportunity.
