A PARKING warden is being investigated by Bury police over allegations that he falsified a ticket.

The unnamed attendant was suspended in April by car parking operators NCP pending an "urgent internal" investigation into the allegation regarding "malicious ticket issue".

NCP say as far as they are concerned the matter is now concluded, but have refused to reveal the outcome of their investigation or whether the warden was still employed by the firm.

The allegations against the warden were made by Mr Robert Gregory, of Royds Street, Tottington, who has now asked the police to investigate.

Mr Gregory claimed the warden made up the ticket following a dispute with him over an unrelated matter.

According to the penalty notice issued, Mr Gregory's vehicle was parked illegally in White Street, Bury, last November. But Mr Gregory claims the van was off the road at the time and could not be moved because of "mechanical problems".

He said: "This ticket was issued fraudulently and because of the length of time it has taken to carry out the investigation I have no choice but to contact the police."

Mr Gregory added: "I was quite willing at first to sort it out amicably with the council and just have it cancelled without having to involve the police or the adjudication service.

"But they refused to take any notice. Now I am determined to pursue it all the way."

A spokesman for NCP said: "Following a full internal investigation, appropriate disciplinary action has been taken and as far as NCP is concerned the matter is now concluded. For his own peace of mind during the course of the investigation, we suggested that Mr Gregory take up the issue with the police."

John Foudy, parking services manager for Bury Council, confirmed that the police were investigating the matter.
