A LABOUR pledge to give every ward in the borough community wardens if they win the Hyndburn Council election was today branded 'total fantasy' by Conservatives.
In their election leaflets, Labour are promising to expand the community warden scheme out across the borough.
The wardens are currently funded through Government Neighbourhood Renewal Fund cash, awarded to only the most deprived wards in the country.
As a result, several wards in Accrington have the wardens, but nowhere else.
However, in the leaflets, Labour -- determined to wrestle control of the council back from the Tories after a year on the opposition benches -- have pledged to try and get the scheme extended.
Tory leader Peter Britcliffe said: "I am becoming concerned now that instead of making realistic promises, people are just saying anything to win."
Labour leader Jean Battle said: "All we have said is that we will try and get the wardens scheme extended."
"We are sure we can find a way to make it happen."
