DOGS, ducks and horses strutted their stuff as thousands of people enjoyed the bank holiday sunshine at the Great Harwood Agricultural Show yesterday.
The show, now in its 138th year, regularly attracts crowds of around 7,000. And yesterday's bumper crowd enjoyed candyfloss and ice cream, while watching events such as the Jujitsu display and tug 'o' war competitions.
But it was the animals that were the real stars, with many local horse riders taking part in the Shires and Shetlands competition and horse displays which saw trophies, silver spoons and rosettes being awarded.
This year's side-saddling display took on extra significance as it was held in honour of popular local judge Pat Williamson, who died earlier this year. She had been a judge at the competition for many years. Tina Turner's classic hit Simply the Best, the song played at Pat's funeral, was played as the young riders put on their display of the 19th-century technique.
The Duck and Dog competition was another highlight. Spectators looked on with amusement as a sheep dog guided the ducks through a number of tunnels and slides.
Fairground rides and a giant inflatable slide also kept the children amused.
Rona Westwell, show secretary, said: "It seems to have been a bigger attendance than normal but we have had the sunshine. I would say around 7,000 people have been here today if you count the competitors."
