DARWEN'S Jubilee Tower Credit Union announced today that it had reached the landmark figure of £100,000 in assets.

The local savings and loans co-operative was set up in February 1996. Four years ago, the credit union opened its premises in The Circus and has been growing rapidly ever since.

It now has 550 members and has already made more than £50,000 worth of loans to its members in 2004, as well as £250,000 since its formation.

Credit Union president Janice Parker said: "We are pleased to reach yet another important milestone in the growth of the credit union. Our aim is to provide affordable and accessible financial services to all the people of Darwen.

"This provides a strong base for the future expansion of the Jubilee Tower Credit Union."
